Can I use AeroGarden to start seeds?


With the AeroGarden Seed Starting System, you can use your AeroGarden to start seedlings for transplanting into an outdoor garden. You can start your Spring plants like lettuce and broccoli, then clean your tray and start over with Summer plants such as tomatoes and cucumbers.



Does AeroGarden need special seeds?

How do I start new seeds in AeroGarden?


The AeroGarden seed starting system helps plants sprout much faster than traditional, soil-based sowing. Consistent moisture and bright, broad spectrum light produce strong, stocky seedlings that are ready to transplant in about a week.



Are Aerogardens worth it?

WATER: The problem could be that the source water you are using is “hard” or has a high mineral content. Plants grown in the AeroGarden do not like well water, spring water, softened water or very hard water. A water problem usually shows up right away as stunted growth or browning/yellowing leaves.



Does AeroGarden light turn off?


When you plug in your AeroGarden for the first time the Grow Light will come ON, and will continue to come ON at this same time every day. It will turn OFF automatically 15 hours later.



What happens if AeroGarden runs out of water?


The pump will stop working and the LED light will turn OFF if the bowl runs out of water. This will alert you that the Sprout needs water. Turning off the lights also will slow the plants’ water intake for a short period of time, so plants can survive for a little while without water.



Can you grow basil and tomatoes together in AeroGarden?


Yes, you can mix different types of plants together if you prune them as needed to manage growth.



Can you use any seeds for hydroponics?


Yes, you can grow any seed in a hydroponic system. That’s why this form of gardening is becoming so popular today. Because you control the garden’s environment, you can grow just about anything on the market with ease: you can quickly and easily change the temperature.

Once your plants are mature, prune them every two weeks to keep them contained. Aerogarden says to “prune the new growth” off the top of the plant, ensuring that you remove the tips of each stem.



Can you grow potatoes in AeroGarden?


Tuberous plants, or root crops such as carrots, beets, potatoes or peanuts should not be planted in an AeroGarden, unless you plan to transplant them soon after germination.



How long do petunias last in AeroGarden?


Most flowers germinate within 2 – 3 weeks and produce blooms within 4 – 6 weeks. Enjoy beautiful flowers for 3-6 months.



Can I grow strawberries in my AeroGarden?


Can you grow strawberries in Your AeroGarden? The short answer is – Yes you can! Along with many other plants that aren’t available in an AeroGarden seed kit. While most other seeds can be planted in an empty seed pod for proper growth, growing strawberries indoors requires a little more work.

If there isn’t a mineral part in the mix (perlite is fine) like vermiculite, sand, etc, the worms will die.

Hydroponic lettuce can be transferred to soil if desired. For best results, reduce the water level in the system a week before transplanting to encourage strong root growth. Carefully move the plants into temporary pots, and slowly acclimate them to outdoor conditions before planting in the garden.



When should I transplant my seedlings hydroponically?


Plants should be transplanted when they have developed 2–3 sets of true leaves. Transplant is the stage that comes after propagation; it’s when you move your young seedlings into your grow-out system.
